Blue artist The Rocketboys, from Austin, Texas, departed the Hill Country Friday for a three-week tour with national bands Lydia and Deas Vail (July 23-July 29) and Atlanta-based Death on Two Wheels (August 1-August 8).
But there’s something different about this tour. Instead of spending their tour downtime reading, surfing the Internet or exploring local cuisine, The Rocketboys—armed with several Blue Microphones, their engineer and mobile recording gear—will be finding eclectic, unlikely places across the country to record their new EP.
“We wanted to do something different on this album,” says singer and guitarist Brandon Kinder, “so we tracked drums at a studio in Austin and left the rest to fate. We’re just going to spend our spare time recording ourselves and our friends in cool places—we’ll see what happens.”
Whether an abandoned warehouse, a subway station or a home studio, The Rocketboys will seek out and set up in random places to fill the music-less void with their brand new songs, using mics like the Bluebird—one of Blue’s most versatile recording mics.
“If you know of any places on our tour route that might serve as a solid, makeshift studio for a few hours, let us know,” Kinder says. “It would be easier on us to have a local perspective. Either way, we’re excited about our new songs and can’t wait to share them with everyone.”
The Rocketboys will stream their on-road recording sessions live from USTREAM.com. Follow them on Twitter (theRocketboys) to find out when their next recording session is.
